Retro

When ideating from the word "retro," I made it more personal. While retro in modern young American culture is usually a throw back to the 90's or 80's. I imagine neon colors, oversized blazers, and hairspray. I wanted to throw it back for that time period and how my mother existed in it. I put in auspicious symbols as well as popular patterns and clothing. For my corresponding weaving I wanted to imitate some of the colors and stripes in my mother's sari. In addition I made a little "baby overshot" to emphasize the importance of jasmine flowers.

Toxic

Toxic immediately reminds me of colors like green or purple that can correspond with poison or waste. From there I thought about toxic actions or processes. Like factory smoke that pollutes and hurts the environment. So I made a repeat pattern and based my weaving off of that, using a pile weave to represent the smoke.
