Inspired by Rachel Carson, this collection uses colors and motifs from the DMV area, where Carson spent her time. Her book, Silent Spring, brought attention to the environmental degradation in our post-industrial world. Despite being a science book, she beautifully describes the scenery she's been in the presence of. She begins by painting us a picture of an idyllic town.

Silent Spring

"The town lay in the midst of a checkerboard of prosperous farms, with fields of grain and hillsides of orchards where, in spring, white clouds of bloom drifted above the green fields. In autumn, oak and maple and birch set up a blaze of color that flamed and flickered across a backdrop of pines."
She then goes on to describe the environmental devastation that the town experiences. This collection is for the town before all that and hopefully, a reality places across the globe can return to. |
